Why Reckless Intentions Always Make a Great Story
A Gay Man’s Guide to Letting Chaos Lead the Way
It always starts with a simple idea.
"Let’s just grab one drink."
"Let’s just walk down to Queen’s Beach for a minute."
"Let’s just see where the night takes us."
And before you know it, you’re four drinks deep, dancing on a table at Tapas, and trying to convince a stranger that you totally live here.
STEP ONE: PREPARE FOR SHENANIGANS
Hydrate, but not too much. The goal is to last all night, not spend it in the bathroom.
Wear an outfit that suggests, “I have a hotel room nearby.” Even if you don’t.
Turn on your location sharing. Someone should know where you are when you inevitably "go for a walk."
Take cash. Because at some point, your phone is going to die, and Venmo won’t save you.
STEP TWO: CHOOSE CHAOS WISELY
Hawaii is full of opportunities to make bad decisions in good places. Pick your adventure:
Queen’s Beach – Daytime sunbathing, nighttime social experiment.
Hula’s Bar & Lei Stand – Where drinks are strong, the patio is packed, and someone will absolutely call you "handsome" by 9 PM.
Karaoke at Wang Chung’s – You will sing. You will regret it. And someone will post it to Instagram
Skinny-Dipping in Waikiki – Illegal, but if you’re gonna be reckless, at least do it under the stars.
STEP THREE: THE MORNING AFTER (OR THE NOON AFTER)
Text your group chat: "I’m alive.”
Find brunch. Immediately. Preferably somewhere with mimosas and little judgment.
Check your Uber history. Because how you got home is still a mystery.
Embrace the chaos. Because life’s too short to say no to adventure, even the mildly irresponsible ones.
Bottom Line:
Hawaii was made for sun, sea, and a little scandal. If you wake up with a hangover, a hickey, and a faint memory of promising to “keep in touch” with someone whose name you can’t recall, congratulations. You did it right. 🌴🏳️🌈🍾
