Why Waikiki Mornings Are a Whole Mood
Now before we start talking about mornings, a reminder: Tonight is Because Hawaii Musical Bingo at Wang Chung’s with games at 7:30, 8:00, and 8:30. Free, fun and fabulous, with prizes to every winner!
If you think Waikiki is only about late-night mai tais and karaoke marathons, you’re missing one of its best secrets: early mornings. And trust us — it’s a whole different kind of magic when the sun’s barely up and the island’s still stretching its arms.
Early morning paddle out.
You’ll see tourists shuffling down Kalakaua Avenue in flip-flops and hoodies, coffee in hand, totally wrecked by jet lag. You’ll see surfers jogging toward the beach, boards tucked under their arms, chasing that perfect morning wave before the crowds show up. You’ll see dog walkers — locals who know the best time to hit the sand is when the sand’s still cool under bare feet.
You might even spot a few leftovers from the night before — someone still in last night's outfit, a little glitter clinging to their cheekbones, trying to decide if they’re starting the day or just ending it. (No judgment. We’ve all been there.)
Waikiki mornings are quieter, softer, a little slower. It's the perfect time to grab a spam musubi (but not from ABC), watch the world wake up, and remember why you fell in love with this place in the first place.
🌺 Pro tip: Set your alarm at least once while you're here. Waikiki mornings are worth losing a little sleep for.
