Why Waikiki's Newest Spectacle Has Us Flipping Out

Just when you thought Waikiki couldn't get any more fabulous, Cirque du Soleil twirls into town with Āuana, their first-ever permanent show in Hawaii. They’ve taken up residence at the Waikiki Outrigger Beachcomber Hotel. The show – inspired by the Big Island's breathtaking sunsets and rich traditions, Āuana—meaning ‘to wander’ or ‘drift’—takes us on a not-so-trivial journey through the islands' stories with a sprinkle of Cirque's signature magic.

Directed by Neil Dorward, who dove into Hawaiian children's books to capture the essence of the culture, this spectacle fuses traditional hula, jaw-dropping aerial acts, and juggling that'll make you question gravity itself. And let's not forget the local creative team ensuring every flip and flourish pays homage to Hawaii’s vibrant heritage.

Show cast and crew.

Even Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson couldn't resist the allure, attending the opening night and dubbing it “the aloha.” So, whether you're kamaaina or just island-hopping, Āuana promises a night of wonder that'll leave you floating on air.
